    Riding the escalators up and down the center of the library is one of my favorite things to do there. I hope you keep the escalators.

    If the enjoyment of the escalators is based on being able to look around the library while ascending/descending, consider replacing the escalators with a glass elevator bank. A glass elevator bank would provide a similar visual benefit and would, I believe, cost less to operate than an escalator system. The existing elevators located near the parking lot side of the building could be retained as a secondary elevator system (or not - surely the current elevators are in need of replacement, too?).

    We could even retire the "chewed up shoe" warning/exhibit... (and make it part of the archives!)
